Setting up your Nucleus custom domain is a straightforward process. In this walkthrough, you'll learn how to setup your custom domain WITH a FREE SSL certificate.

Enabling an SSL certificate on your Nucleus custom domain allows you to protect sensitive information shared through your Nucleus.

SSL is essential for protecting your website, even if your Nucleus doesn't handle sensitive information like credit cards. It provides privacy, critical security, and data integrity for both your Nucleus and your users' personal information.

Step #1 - Create Free Cloudflare Account

To begin the process of setting up your custom domain with a FREE SSL certificate, you'll first need to add your custom domain to Cloudflare.

To connect your custom domain to your Cloudflare account, begin by signing in to your existing Cloudflare account - or create a free one by clicking here.

Step #2 - Add Custom Domain To Cloudflare

Now, during the Cloudflare signup process, or by logging in to your existing Cloudflare account and clicking on the 'Add Site' button in the navigation menu, add your Nucleus custom domain to your Cloudflare account.

After Cloudflare has queried your domain's DNS records, click 'Continue' at the bottom of the screen.

Step #3 - Point Custom Domain Nameservers To Cloudflare

Now it's time to point your domain's nameservers to Cloudflare. If you're unsure of how to do this, make sure to follow Cloudflare's included instructions on how to successfully update your domain nameservers.

Once your domain's nameservers are properly updated, click 'Continue.'

Upon clicking 'Continue' you'll be brought to your Cloudflare dashboard.

Now, it's time to play the waiting game. Wait for an email from Cloudflare to confirm that your custom domain has been successfully added to your Cloudflare account.

IMPORTANT: Nameserver changes can take up to 24 hours. With that being said, usually the process is much faster - for example, our setup only took about five minutes.

Once you've received an email from Cloudflare notifying you that your custom domain has successfully been added to your Cloudflare account, refresh your screen (or click the link sent to you through email).

You'll see that your custom domain has been added to Cloudflare. Nice!

Step #4 - Point Your Domain A Record From Cloudflare To Nucleus

Now that you've added your custom domain to Cloudflare, you'll need to make sure to point your domain to Nucleus.

To do this, begin by clicking on the 'DNS' icon tab in the Cloudflare navigation.

From here, ensure that your A record is setup to point to the IP address:

If there are any additional A records existing, delete them.

Step #5 - Turn On  'Always Use HTTPS' in Cloudflare

The final step in configuring your SSL within Cloudflare is enable the setting 'Always Use HTTPS.' This ensures that when a visitor lands on your Nucleus, they're always redirected to the secure version.

To turn on this setting in Cloudflare, access the SSL settings by clicking on the button next to the SSL tab in your Cloudflare dashboard.

Now, scroll down the page until you see the section titled 'Always Use HTTPS.' Make sure the toggle is enabled.

Success! Your custom domain should now be enabled with a free SSL certificate. Well done!
